Law students score ‘court’ victory

A team of Osgoode Hall Law School students won their division in this year’s annual Bay Street Hoops charity tournament earlier this month with a perfect 5-0 record.

Led by captain and third-year law student Layth Gafoor, the victorious basketball team consisted of Subodh Bharati (second year); Rob Carson (first year); Brian Donnelly (first year); Ronald Franklin (third year); Jeffery Garland (first year); Kevin Henderson (second year); Ted Lui (second year); Ognjen Miketic (third year); and Linus Yung (second year).

“Whether in a court of law or on a basketball court, Osgoode students and alumni are known for conducting themselves with class and distinction,” commented Osgoode Dean Patrick Monahan. “I’m told that our basketball players left a very positive impression among leaders in the corporate community for their combination of sportsmanship and civic responsibility.”

Tournament proceeds support Special Olympics Canada and local community charities working with at-risk youth.

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP sponsored the Osgoode team in the tournament that saw 70 teams competing in 10 divisions. In the division four finals, York’s team defeated a team from Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in a hard fought and gritty victory.
