Work begins on York’s new student code of conduct

The Office of Student Conduct & Dispute Resolution at York has partnered with key University stakeholders to establish a working committee to develop a new student code of conduct. The committee has a mandate to consult the York community to develop the student code of conduct for implementation by Fall 2006. The development of a new code of conduct for students will enable the University community to respond to ongoing, changing and new student conduct issues in a consistent and fair manner. This large undertaking will result in a streamlining of the process that governs student conduct and involves consultation with students, faculty and staff.

There will be a host of opportunities for the York University community to get involved. Posters and online announcements will be used to ensure that the community is aware of upcoming opportunities. In the first stage of the consultation process, the committee will be organizing a series of open forums, ‘town hall’ meetings (see below for dates and locations) and will be using an online poll (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=363731718164) to engage stakeholders in open dialogue.

After completing the online survey, York University students (only) will receive a ballot to win a free 4GB iPod Nano. The second stage of the consultation process will provide the York community with an opportunity to comment on a draft code of conduct for students.
