Memorial service for Kenneth Golby


A memorial for Professor Kenneth Golby (right), a longtime member of the Spanish Section in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics in York’s Faculty of Arts, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 2:30-6pm. Prof. Golby came to the University in September 1963 and had been on long-term disability since 1996. He died on July 24, 2005 at his home in Wilberforce, Ont.. He was 64.


On Thursday, an official memorial in the chapel of the Scott Religious Centre will take place from 2:30-4pm., and, according to the wishes Prof. Golby expressed in his will, Edward Burke will officiate and Robert Fink, Richard Pope, and possibly Rev. Paul Owen will speak.


To give all of Prof. Golby’s friends a chance to remember him, there will be a reception from 4-6pm. in the departmental lounge, room S556, Ross Bldg.  


Prof. Golby courageously fought a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Donations to the Parkinson Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
