Flag lowered for student Nicholas Vanderboom

Nicholas Vanderboom (right) was a loving and caring son, brother, nephew and friend who passed away in a car accident on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005. A second-year student in the Faculty of Arts, Nicholas was a member of York’s Stong College community. The flag at York University will be lowered to half-mast today in his memory.

“He lived for almost 20 years with zest, enthusiasm and creative energy. His sharp and curious mind mixed delightfully with his keen sense of fun and laughter. And his smile was – infectious!” said a family spokesperson. “Nick was so fond of demonstrating his athletic ability that his goal was to try, and then to master every sport. And try he did – stronger, faster, higher….”

Nicholas leaves his parents Anne and John, his sister Rebecca, his family and his many friends. The funeral service for Nicholas is private; however, his family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Kidsport Ontario through its Web site www.kidsport.on.ca. Kidsport Ontario is an organization that distributes sports equipment and funds to children who could not otherwise participate in sports leagues, tournaments or their local community centres.
