York president votes for subway in Think Outside the Box contest

When SAAB Canada asked the question, Lorna R. Marsden, York president and vice-chancellor, knew exactly what she would do to make Toronto a better city, “extend the Spadina subway line to York Region as soon as possible.”

SAAB 93 combiThe suggestion, one of thousands already received in the company’s Think Outside the Box promotion, was echoed by a number of voters contributing their ideas online at the contest Web site. One lucky winner will receive a one-year lease of a 2006 Saab 9-3 Sport Combi car (above).

“We’ve had quite a few submissions about the subway,” said Adam Moffat, senior consultant with Environics Communications Inc., the organizers of the contest. “I expect it will be up there among the topical issues.” Contest officials will release the most popular issue from the online poll, as well as some of the most interesting and outlandish ideas submitted, in early August.

Several Toronto personalities were recruited to promote the contest including filmmaker Norman Jewison, Toronto Board of Trade president Glen Grunwald, architect Eberhard Zeidler and Marsden, among others. SAAB Canada will make a $5,000 donation to the Toronto Community Foundation on behalf of the celebrity group for their participation.

The official submission period ends on Friday, so there’s still plenty of time to vote for a subway to York Region. To enter your vote for the subway, visit www.saabcanada.com/thinkoutsidethebox.
