Sample a little ‘wellness’ next week

Treat your body to something other than lunch next week. Take yoga with Alex, sit down for a shoulder massage from Elizabeth, or find out what athlete’s eat to enhance their performance – free from our campus experts during York’s third annual Wellness Week May 9-13.

Whether you take lunch early or late, they will be ready to pamper and to educate you next Monday to Friday anywhere from 11:40am to 3pm in Vanier College Room 113.

Fitness is key to wellness, so try out the walking and rubber tubing exercise class on Monday. Or learn exercises you can do while you sit to reduce stress. There are also talks about a healthy diet and a presentation about what kind of care is available from Athletes’ Care on campus.

The popular seated massages will be offered every 10 minutes on a first-come-first-served basis. But you can sign up in advance for a same-day session Monday, Thursday and Friday on a sheet posted in Vanier 113.

Among the experts who are rallying to the wellness cause are hatha yoga instructor Alex Bovkis, chiropractor Mark Halpern, masseuse Elizabeth Laframboise, Wellness Centre director and health management Prof. Joseph Levy, and dietician and sports nutritionist Jennifer Sygo.

Wellness Week is a joint initiative of the Centre for Wellness Research and Education, Confidential, Professional, and Managerial Employees Association, York University Staff Association and Vanier College.
