York’s E-Party gets the bandwidth bopping

York’s E-Party – a key online event for newly admitted students – has reached cyber-phenomenon status. In 2004, more than 10,000 new students were invited to the first-ever e-party. For 2005, York’s Office of Admissions has developed an even more student-focused event. With an invite list of more than 15,000 guests, the bandwidth will be bopping on Wednesday, April 13, from 7 to 9pm and Tuesday, April 19, from 7 to 9pm.

The spring event has a great conversion rate and the event’s success is based on the fact that newly admitted students are in a ready-to-know-York state of mind, demanding not only facts, facts and more facts, but also relationship, relevance and rapport. By York interacting directly with them online, of course.

The Office of Admissions, in partnership with the eight undergraduate Faculties and campus service departments (Housing, Financial Services, Career Services and Alumni Services), is working to keep future York students clicking and connecting to the University. The goal is to give newly admitted students a broad view of York – from academics to student life – and to enable them to get involved, get comfortable and succeed.

Consider the fact that 812,000,000 people are now online worldwide (Source: Internet World Stats, September 2004). They see online access as an absolute necessity – it’s as vital as the oxygen they breathe. Young people between the ages of 17 and 24 are the most demanding of that group. They’ve grown up with online access and self-identify as “Masters of the Youniverse” (Source: Trendwatching.com 2004), leaders in on an ongoing search for the best of the best. They expect relevant information to be available instantly, demanding click-and-know service.

Exclusive E-Party events include:

  • Online chats with Admissions professionals, professors, current York students and staff from student service.
  • Student Diaries – diaries created by a group of current York students.
  • A free York screensaver to download.
  • An online “walking tour” of the Keele campus.
  • International Diaries – browse the photo galleries of York students who have been on international exchanges.
  • York Trivia Game – test your York knowledge with this interactive trivia game

York is at the forefront of universities tapping into the desire to remain connected in vital and innovative ways. The E-Party is just one example of York’s quest to convince top scholars that York is the place for all “Masters of the Youniverse.”
