Come celebrate the Toronto Argonauts’ Grey Cup win today

York U’s Spirit Squad will help warm up the crowd expected to gather at Nathan Phillips Square today in celebration of the Toronto Argonauts’ win over the BC Lions in the 92nd Grey Cup championship game on Sunday night in Ottawa. The Argos beat the Lions 27-19 in front of the largest live TV audience to witness a championship sporting event in Canada. This is the first Grey Cup title since 1997 for the Toronto football club.

York University’s cheerleaders, dance squad and Lions mascots will take to the stage at 11am and perform their routine until the arrival of the Argonauts at noon.

The Spirit Squad will be introduced several times throughout the hour by the master of ceremonies as being from York University, the future home of the Argos and alma mater of several members of the Argonauts team. In addition to being decked out in brilliant York University colours – red and white – the squad will unfurl the York University banner.

Members of the York community interested in participating in the celebration should congregate at Nathan Phillips Square just before 11am. Be sure to wear red or anything that says York University on it. The weather is expected to be a bit chilly, so dress warmly.
