Olympic silver medallist bounces into Yorkfest

karen cockburnYork student Karen Cockburn, who dazzled Canadians with her silver-medal performance on the trampoline at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, will help kick off Yorkfest tomorrow with a demonstration of her aerial acrobatics.


Members of the York community are invited to recognize Karen’s achievement and watch her perform her Olympic routine at noon on the Commons.


Cockburn, 23, who also performs with the SkyRiders trampoline team during half-time shows at major North American sporting events throughout the year, won a bronze medal at the 2000 Games in Sydney. She plans to compete in the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing.

The largest one-day campus event of the year, Yorkfest features live entertainment and displays by York’s student clubs and services. Athletes from SportYork will also be on hand to honour Karen and the other York faculty and staff who attended the Games as members of the Canadian team.
