All rise, now let’s get down!

The lawyers will be rocking for charity again as Bay Street’s AIDSBeat 2004 hits the Capitol Event Theatre stage Friday.

You won’t need a subpoena to appear before the judges at the legal community’s ninth annual fundraiser – just buy a ticket to support AIDS research and see Patrick Monahan, dean of York’s Osgoode Hall Law School, Mark Holmes of the rock group Platinum Blonde, and five bands comprised of lawyers.

Monahan will be one of the celebrity judges of the event with Holmes acting as host. The night promises a fabulous light and sound array, go-go dancers, great food, raffle prizes and more than 1,000 rabid rockers from the bar, bench, law schools and other organizations.

Performances begin at 8pm at the theatre, which is located at 2492 Yonge St. in Toronto.

Proceeds from AIDSBeat 2004 go to support the Canadian National Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) which funds Canadian research into HIV/AIDS and generates awareness to help prevent new infections. Since 1987, these donations have funded more than $9.5 million in research at Canadian hospitals, health facilities, research institutes and educational establishments. Last year more than $1.5 million in grants was distributed.

Tickets are $25 ($10 for students) and are available by calling 416-361-6281. The event sells out every year so act quickly to avoid disappointment.
