Tom Oliveri (left), an assistant coach at York for the past seven years, will take over as head coach of York’s men’s basketball team for the 2004-2005 season while Bob Bain, York’s current coach, is on sabbatical.

Currently a teacher at Brebeuf College in Toronto, he previously coached and taught for eight years at Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School in Toronto, where he won seven TDCAA Championships, an OFSAA bronze medal and two end-of-season top 10 national rankings.

As head coach of the Under-17 Men’s Ontario Provincial Team, Oliveri led Ontario to back-to-back gold medals at the Juvenile National Championship in 2002 and 2003.

A certified master course conductor and Level 4/5 certified, Oliveri has coached in the Eastern Canadian Development Camp and the Nike All-Canada Camp. He has also played a key role in player recruitment for York over the past seven years.

In 2003-04, the Lions advanced to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national semifinal for the second time in three years.
