York’s Birthday was the biggest one-day event to be held at York’s Keele campus by students for students. Throughout the day on March 25, over 2,000 free loot bags, prizes and incentives were given out all over the Keele campus to students, faculty and staff who wore red and white, and nearly 1,500 members of the York community chowed down on 25 large cakes in and around the East Bear Pit – all in anticipation of York’s 45th birthday on March 26.

A mainstage show featuring bands, soloists, poets and dancers from York’s various community groups entertained York students all day long in the Student Centre. From first floor to fourth, the rafters and stairs were brimming with people who wanted to catch a piece of the action.

The day ended with a bang at midnight during pub night at the Underground where the York is U team behind the celebrations brought in York’s birthday with a salutatory ball drop, balloon drop and even more free stuff for York students, including five DVD players to winners of a draw.

As York is U executive director Chris Luckhardt said, ” The countdown to York’s 45th birthday was a smashing success, and it can only get bigger and better in the years to come.”
