John Lennox named associate vice-president graduate

York Vice-President Academic Sheila Embleton has announced the appointment of Professor John Lennox to the position of associate vice-president graduate. The new position becomes effective April 15.

Right: John Lennox

Lennox will continue to hold his present position as dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The current administrative structure of the faculty will remain in place. The creation of the position of associate vice-president graduate in the division of the Vice-President Academic recognizes the growing importance of graduate studies at York University and in Ontario. The position and the appointment of Lennox are intended to facilitate enhanced coordination in the management and planning of graduate programming and enrolment.

A professor of English in the Faculty of Arts, Lennox was appointed dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies in July 2000. He currently serves as president of the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies. Lennox is also York’s representative to the general assembly of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Lennox will also serve as the academic convenor when York hosts the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in 2006. In 2000, he was the recipient of the Governor General’s International Award for Canadian Studies.
