New assistant coach named for Lions men’s Soccer


Sport York has announced the appointment of Dino Lopez (BA ’97) as assistant coach of the Lions men’s soccer team. Lopez holds a provincial ‘B’ licence and has spent the past three years coaching at the youth level in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

As a player, Lopez was a member of the York men’s soccer teams in 1989 and 1990, earning Ontario University Atheltics (OUA) All-Star honours in 1989. He played professionally for 10 years in the Canadian Soccer League and the A-League. Lopez was named a C.S.L. All-Star in 1992 while playing for the London Lasers, who were coached by York University master soccer coach Paul James. A Canadian National team member in 1992, Lopez was also a two-time A-League All-Star.


“I am delighted Dino has accepted the assistant soccer coaching position at York,” said James. “He has an excellent soccer background and is liked and respected within the soccer community. As an alumnus, Dino will be an excellent role model for our student-athletes.”
