French and English music meet through Glendon ensemble

At York’s bilingual campus next week, you can hear the Glendon Musical Ensemble perform selections from contemporary English musicals and French rock operas. With originality and imagination, the Glendon Musical Ensemble presents its latest concert entitled Stageworks, on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 2-3, at 7:30pm in the Glendon Theatre, 2275 Bayview Avenue, at Lawrence Ave.

As a news release about Stageworks said, “The audience can discover, or live all over again, some of the best ‘stage work’ moments of recent decades through these unusual yet harmonious arrangements.”

The Glendon Musical Ensemble was formed in 1999 with the support of the Glendon Office of Student Services’ artistic and cultural affairs officer. It seeks to foster an appreciation for music, make accessible less known works and familiarize members of the York and Glendon College communities with the timeless beauty of the many strands making up the world’s musical heritage.

The ensemble consists of vocalists and instrumentalists under the joint leadership of Paulo Bittencourt and Cristina Raimondo. The instrumental section comprises an eclectic mix of strings, winds and keyboards, modern and historic. The Glendon Musical Ensemble brings together Glendon students, faculty, alumni and friends who share a love for music and a desire to freely explore various repertoires and musical genres, while having a lot of fun.

Seating is limited. For reservations, call the Theatre Glendon Box Office at 416-487-6822. While tickets are free, patrons are encouraged to pay $5. Ticket revenues promote the continued functioning of the ensemble.
