Funeral information for Lewis Wheelan

A funeral for Lewis Wheelan, the economics student at York’s Glendon College who died in his apartment during the recent blackout, will be held today at 11am in his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, at the city’s Zion Lutheran Church. A Toronto Star obituary notice said Wheelan would want memorial donations made to the Global Hunger and Development Appeal (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada), through which funds are directed towards alleviating child poverty in famine-stricken areas of the world.

Wheelan’s family is expecting a large crowd at the service for the young man, who was admired for the courage he showed following an electrocution accident that befell him two years ago while he was working near Sault Ste. Marie. He lost both legs and an arm in the accident and had to undergo extensive skin grafting and physiotherapy.

A memorial service for Wheelan will be held in Toronto next month.
