Team York sparks new alumni chapter in Atlanta, Georgia

President and Vice-Chancellor Lorna R. Marsden (left) and Team York recently visited Atlanta, Georgia, to promote research, meet alumni and boost awareness of York University. The following item about the visit was written by Barbara Sutton, director of the York Alumni Office.

Approximately 40 York University alumni attended an alumni reception at the official residence of Astrid Pregel (York University BA and MBA), Canada’s consul general in Atlanta, Georgia. The consul general hosted the reception to coincide with President Lorna R. Marsden’s visit to Atlanta with Team York. It provided a marvellous opportunity for the team to reconnect with our alumni and to encourage the start of a new York University alumni chapter.

Four York alums – Jeanne Blanchard (BA ’81, MBA ’83), J.S. Kang (LLB ’88), Eric Hutchinson (MBA ’86) and Earlene Saulnier (BA ’95) – enthusiastically volunteered to start the new chapter.

Among the York guests was Jonathan Mann (BA ’80), who earned his York degree in philosophy and is now a CNN anchor. Mann will be visiting the Keele campus in September.

Team York includes Stan Shapson, vice-president research & innovation; Barbara Sutton, director of alumni affairs; Paul Marcus, York University Foundation president; Suzanne MacDonald, associate vice-president research; David Dewitt, professor and director, York Centre for International and Security Studies; Michael Siu, professor and director, York Centre for Research in Mass Spectrometry; Christian Buhagiar, York manager of research policy and government relations; James Milway, executive director, Ontario Institute for Competitiveness and Prosperity; and Liz Mulholland, Toronto City Summit Alliance.
