York goes over the top – for United Way

We have filled the 2002 York United Way virtual banner with York red – and gone over the top! The University campaign exceeded its goal by more than $5,000, and with contributions from the York Foundation, the York community will be contributing over $190,000 to the 2002 United Way campaign. The following account was sent by John Lennox, campaign leadership Chair, and Nancy Accinelli, employee campaign Chair.

We are happy to announce that the 2002 York University United Way Employee Campaign has exceeded its goal by more than $5,000. We had a goal of $175,000, but through personal donations and contributions to special events, the generous donors at York have given a total of $180,330. In addition, the York University Foundation, our partner in the campaign, received donations totalling more than $10,000 from its members. In this extraordinary year, the York community will be contributing more than $190,000 to serve our communities through the United Way.

Thank-you to the 85 staff members who dedicated themselves to canvassing, with the result that donor numbers increased, as well as the total amount donated. Their efforts and your generosity have made the difference. And what a wonderful difference!

Faculty, staff, students, board members and sponsors within the University have made possible this great success and we are most grateful.

Of course, the real beneficiaries are members of our larger community, the people – on campus, off campus, where we work and where we live – who need and use services which are supported through United Way and its agencies.

York gave to make a strong community. We thank you.
