York fine arts professors remember

Three York faculty members have contributed to a newly-published book Image and Remembrance, which examines visual representations of the Holocaust in film, architecture, painting, photography, memorials and monuments.

Prof. Shelley Hornstein, Visual Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, is co-editor of and contributor to the book; Prof. Florence Jacobowitz, contract faculty, Faculty of Fine Arts and Atkinson School of Arts & Letters, is co-editor; and Prof. Carol Zemel, Chair of Visual Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, is a contributor.

The book, published by Indiana University Press, was launched Jan.19 during a ceremony organized by David Mirvish Books. Image and Remembrance considers ways in which visual artists have given form to the experience of the Holocaust and addresses the role that imagination plays in the shaping of historical memory.
