The Dec. 19 Winnipeg Free Press reports that NDP MP Svend Robinson and York University history Prof. Irving Abella – a former president of the Canadian Jewish Congress and an Order of Canada recipient – have each applied to the Chief Justice of Canada to revoke David Ahenakew’s Order of Canada after he made anti-Semitic remarks last week.
Olympic coach resurfaces at York
Triple Olympic champion Marion Jones and 100 metres world record holder Tim Montgomery have been seen at the York University Track and Field Centre with Ben Johnson’s former coach Charlie Francis, reports The Ottawa Citizen Dec. 19. A Reuters photograph issued Dec. 18 shows Canadian sprint coach Francis on his knees helping American sprinter Jones stretch out at the Toronto centre, while her compatriot, Montgomery, is beside them stretching with Jones’s Canadian coach Derek Hansen, said the Citizen. That photograph was also printed Dec. 19 in the National Post.
