Look at how York’s Underground has changed!

Have a look at the Underground restaurant in the York University Student Centre (YUSC). Anyone who has spent time near the student centre lately has heard the sounds of construction, seen the sights of welding torch sparks – and waited with interest. What”s been happening?

The secret is now out: The well-known and well-loved Underground restaurant  has been completely altered through a $1.5 million renovation. In its new persona, it is a multi-function facility whose space is available for booking*. And, yes, the Underground now offers a Sunday brunch.

Pictured above is the new Underground restaurant logo sculpted in ice, accompanied by ice- art names of areas within the newly-revamped space. Each area has a “unique function and ambiance”, according to Ross McMillan, executive officer of the YUSC.

At the grand opening ceremony last week Chair of the YUSC Konata Lake, seen here in the left side of the photo, spoke about the renovation. With him in the photograph are other members of the YUSC executive committee – Danielle Francis, Michael Novak and Timothy Lipaini.

The new Underground hours are as follows:

Monday -Wednesday, 11:30am-1am

Thursday – Friday, 11:30am-2 am

Sunday, 11:30am-10pm
