Won’t open the skies

Transport Minister David Collenette will likely shelve a report that says Ottawa should open the skies to foreign carriers, said business Professor Fred Lazar in a Sept. 27 story in The Toronto Star. Lazar said Collenette will argue that the pressure to boost competition in Canada has eased now that small competitors have sprung up since the demise of Canada 3000.

Off the map

Retired geography Professor John Warkentin expressed regret that Canada’s official atlas was Internet-based. “You still need a printed map to get a real view of the country,” he said, reported the National Post Sept. 27. “It’s something you can sit on your desk and open and trace a map with your finger — it’s a tactile thing.”
