New provincial COVID-19 measures - What Toronto in lockdown means for York University

In an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, the provincial government has announced new restrictions that will come into effect for the City of Toronto and Region of Peel Monday, Nov. 23 at 12:01 a.m. Anyone approved to be on campus for research, teaching or ongoing required activities continues to be approved until further notice for any time-sensitive activities that cannot be postponed.

York retirees raise more than $24,000 for graduate student awards

During October, 18 members of the York University Retirees’ Association (YURA) and one University staff member participated in the Scotiabank Charity Challenge to raise funds to help endow the three Graduate Student Awards that YURA funds annually. As of Nov. 12, a total of $24,105 has been raised. There’s still time to support the team. Donations will be accepted until Nov. 23.

Interdisciplinary book takes a critical look at Canadian health care

A new book containing a collection of research that questions the role that evidence-based decision making plays in how we understand health and health care features a star cast from York University. “Health Matters: Evidence, Critical Social Science, and Health Care in Canada” critiques the growing commodification, individualization and privatization of Canadian health services.
