Founders College hosted its third annual Meet Your Major event on Nov. 4, with alumni from across decades who met and conversed with the current generation of students. More than 50 participants logged in online to take part.

More than 50 alumni and students participated in the virtual Meet Your Major event held Nov. 4

Nine alumni in the following fields participated this year: government, education, law, medicine, non-profit sector, museum digitization, and human resources for a multinational corporation. The alumni graduated from York University with the following majors: environmental studies, classical studies, history, education, kinesiology, creative writing, social work, French studies, Italian studies, public administration, and human rights and equity studies.

Held online, this event took a speed-friending approach, allowing students to move throughout breakout rooms to engage with each alumnus/alumna. Students gained a wide range of insight in a number of areas, touching upon professional and educational fields. There were offered insight into the alumni’s university experience, their transition into the workforce, networking strategies, career avenues, professional development and augmenting one’s education.

The event aims to help current students, but also gives alumni the opportunity to give back to their college community.
