All members of the University community are invited to participate in an academic planning forum scheduled at a critical stage in the development of the University Academic Plan 2020-2025.

Following the initial community consultation phase (held between November 2019 to January 2020) that garnered considerable input from across the University on the new University Academic Plan (UAP), this interactive forum will be focused on a discussion of the initial draft of the UAP 2020-2025.

Event details:

Towards the University Academic Plan 2020-2025
Sponsored by the Academic Policy, Planning and Research Committee
Community Open Forum on Thursday, March 5, from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m.
New Student Centre, Second Floor

The Chair of the Academic Policy, Planning and Research Committee (APPRC), Professor Carl S. Ehrlich, will moderate and open proceedings with brief remarks on the process leading to the new UAP. Following, Provost Lisa Philipps will provide an overview of the draft UAP. Discussion at the forum will be facilitated through breakout groups, one discussion group for each of the foundational priority areas for action that APPRC has proposed in the draft UAP, and one on the supplemental action goal articulated in the document. Members of APPRC will facilitate the breakout discussions, with the Chair convening a concluding plenary session to highlight outcomes.

Foundational Priorities:

  • 21st Century Learning:  Diversifying Whom, What, and How We Teach
  • Generating New Knowledge: Inclusive Research, Scholarship, Creation
  • From Access to Success:  Next Gen Student Supports
  • Advancing Global Citizenship
  • Working in Partnership
  • Living Well Together
  • A Call to Action: A University-Wide Challenge to Contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

Participants are asked to be prepared to share reflections on the draft UAP and to engage in critical discourse with members of the community and the Senate Committee that will inform the final iteration of the new UAP for approval by Senate. The draft UAP paper is vital preparation for the forum, and can be accessed at the UAP Renewal webpage.

RSVPs are kindly requested to ensure space needs are met. To confirm attendance, fill in the online form.

Members of the community who are unable to attend may follow proceedings on a livestream.

Questions and comments may also be sent prior to the forum or while discussion is taking place to info.univsec@yorku.ca.
