Winners in #YUSpirit photo contest announced

Following another successful Red & White Day celebration on March 22, the results are in for the #YUSpirit photo competition. Winners were selected in four categories: YU Spirit Class of 2020, YU Spirit Students, YU Spirit Faculty & Staff and the YU Spirit Alumni.

In the Class of 2020 category, incoming students who will begin their studies at York in September 2016 were invited to take a photo wearing red and white and York gear. Participants vying for the prize in the Student, Faculty & Staff, and Alumni categories, were also invited to wear York gear or red and white, and take a photo of their spirit in action.

This year the YU Faculty & Staff Spirit Challenge was added to the Red & White Day event roster. Staff and faculty members were invited to participate in a variety of scavenger hunt-style challenges to demonstrate their #YUSpirit for a chance to win coffee and treats for their office.

The judges certainly had their work cut out for them this year, as competition was fierce. Hundreds of students, staff, faculty and alumni submitted photos, with only one winner selected in each category. Contest entries were judged by faculty representative Anna Hudson, an associate professor in the School of Arts, Media, Performance & Design. Hudson was joined by Maxine Veneracion, co-president of the Visual Arts Student Association, and staff member Alicia Brown, the social/print media assistant for the Communications Department.

The winner in the YU Spirit Class of 2020 category is Ben Phelps.
