LA&PS Dean Martin Singer’s term extended by one year

President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri  and Vice-President Academic & Provost Rhonda Lenton issued the following message to the York community yesterday:

We would like to share with you that Martin Singer, dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, has agreed to extend his decanal term by one year to conclude on June 30, 2015. The extension was approved by the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors on February 13, 2013. This extension will allow Dean Singer to advance a number of initiatives that have commenced under his leadership and will better position the Faculty when we commence a search for a new Dean in the fall of 2014.

Dean Singer joined York in 2009, when he became the inaugural dean of the new Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. He came to York from Concordia University in Montreal, where he was a professor since 1972. During his 37-year career at Concordia, he served as Provost, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, Director of the Council for International Academic Cooperation and Chair of the History Department.

We would like to thank Martin for agreeing to this extension, and we look forward to continuing to work with him.
