Green tip of the week: Lead by example

the earth

As Albert Einstein once said, “Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others; it is the only means”.

At York members of the sustainability@yorku project team are proud of the work of the University’s many sustainability champions and unsung heroes among community members. “The power of leadership is crucial to the University’s continued success in becoming a leading post-secondary institution for sustainability,” says Pavel Graymason, sustainability engagement coordinator in the Office of the President.

As part of fostering this leadership, Graymason encourages all York University students, staff, faculty, alumni and retirees to take one, some, or all of the University’s sustainability pledges.

“Each sustainability pledge contains a number of tips on things that you can do at work and at home to lessen your impact on the environment,” says Graymason. “While doing small things may not seem like it will have much of an effect, your personal commitment to sustainability will be contagious.  It is each of our individual actions that, taken together, will make a world of difference.”
