Sidewalk now open on the north side of Steeles Avenue West

A new sidewalk is now open on the north side of Steeles Avenue West. The south sidewalk, between Founders Road and Murray Ross Parkway has been closed to allow for excavation of the new subway. It will remain closed until April 2013.

Pedestrians should use the new sidewalk on the north side of Steeles Ave.W. Access to the north side of Steeles Ave.W. is available at Founders Road or Murray Ross Parkway. Paid duty police officers will be on Steeles Ave. W. directing pedestrians at Founders Rd. and vehicular traffic at Northwest Gate.

Traffic restrictions on Steeles Ave. W. will continue and be modified to suit subway construction activities over the next three years.While driving through the construction zone, motorists are asked to use extra care and reduced their speed. Traffic movement will be reduced to ensure public safety and to allow for construction vehicles to access the site on both north and south sides of Steeles Ave. W.

The speed limit has been reduced to 50 kilometres an hour on Steeles Ave. W. between Jane Street and Keele Street. The new speed limit will be strictly enforced by the Toronto Police Service.
