York Vice-President Academic and Provost Patrick Monahan issued this announcement to the University community:

Following an extensive search that included consideration of a wide range of both internal and external candidates, and on the recommendation of a search committee with representation from across the University community, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Janet Morrison as Vice-Provost Students.  Janet will take up her new position Janet Morrisonon July 1, 2012, succeeding Rob Tiffin.

Janet Morrison

Dr. Janet Morrison has been a member of the York University community for 13 years.  She currently serves as Project Director in the Process Re-engineering & Service Enhancement (PRASE) office, where she leads the Services for Students workstream.  In this capacity, she undertook an organizational review and engaged the community in consultations as part of a process aimed at enhancing the services and supports we provide to our students while improving efficiencies and coordination in the student services area.  Immediately prior to her appointment to the PRASE team, Janet served from 2006-2011 as Executive Officer in the Faculty of Health, where she played a key role in the launch of the new Faculty and in the development of its strategic plan and establishment of processes and structures in the Faculty.  From 1999 to 2006, she was a member of the Faculty of Environmental Studies, first as Director of Student and Academic Programs and then as Executive Officer.  She also taught for several years as a contract faculty member in FES.  She holds undergraduate and Masters degrees in History; and a PhD in Higher Education from Bowling Green State University.

Janet currently serves as a staff representative on York’s Board of Governors.  In 2010, she was awarded the President’s Leadership Award in recognition of her contributions to York as a member of CPM staff.  Throughout her career, she has also been extensively involved in community organizations, including the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto.

I invite colleagues to join with me in congratulating Janet on her appointment as Vice-Provost Students.  I look forward to continuing to work closely with her in this important new position, and to making further progress in the enhancement of our students’ experience and success.

While we will have opportunities in the weeks ahead to celebrate Rob Tiffin’s contributions to York as Vice-President Students, I want to acknowledge and express my appreciation to him for his outstanding work in supporting students.

Finally, I would like to thank the members of the search committee for their significant service to the University and their wise counsel to me throughout the search process.
