York issues message to students about ‘tragic’ death in The Village

York Vice-President Students Robert Tiffin issued this message to students Sunday:

Dear Students:

As you may know, there was a tragic incident in The Village on Friday, resulting in the death of a young woman.

Toronto Police Service has not released the identity of the victim. However, given the close proximity to our campus and the number of students residing in The Village, York is deeply concerned about this death.

York Security Services is providing police with any information that may help them in their investigation.

I would like to remind students that counselling is available, and I would encourage you to make use of the services if you feel you need it at this difficult time. For assistance on the weekend, please contact the Community Crisis Response Program at 416-498-0043. During the week, please contact York University Counselling & Disability Services, at 416-736-5297.

Toronto Police Service has released a description of a person of interest. They are asking for the public’s assistance: see Toronto Police Service News Release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Frank Skubic at 416-808-7399, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637), or Leave A Tip on Facebook.
