Art Gallery of York University sponsors Artist’s Book of the Moment competition

abotmCalling all artists: Now is your chance to be recognized. The Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) is now accepting submissions to the AGYU Artists Book of the Moment (ABotM) competition, which recognizes already published work. The singular book that rises to the top of the ABotM will receive a cash award of $1,500.

There are no restrictions on the date or location of the book or on the number of submissions that can be made to the ABotM competition. There is no fee to submit a book, however all books submitted will be retained by the AGYU. During the submission and assessment period, all books entered into the competition will be publicly accessible in the lobby of the AGYU bookstore. At the end of the competition, the books will be placed in the AGYU’s newly developed artists’ book resource centre or other suitable collection. Entries must be received by the AGYU by Jan. 18, 2010. For information on how to submit an entry to the ABotM, visit the AGYU’s ABotM Web page.

Books deemed worthy of an ABotM designation will be featured on the AGYU Web site in a section dedicated to artists’ books along with contact information on the artist(s) responsible for the publication. In addition, qualifying artists will receive proper notification and acknowledgement along with a framed certificate attesting to the ABotM designation.

Following the closing deadline, the AGYU’s panel of adjudicators will assess all submissions. Taking into consideration their own eclectic tastes, a selection of the books will be deemed worthy of the AGYU ABotM designation – a rare honour indeed!
