‘We now have much work to do’

President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri has issued this message to faculty and staff:

Dear Colleagues:

Now that the strike is officially over and we are resuming classes on Monday, Feb.  2, I wanted to acknowledge your efforts, your patience and your dedication. This strike has been a demoralizing experience for all of us, and many of you have experienced the frustration of students and parents first-hand.

We now have much work to do to rebuild York — the relationships between faculty, teaching assistants, staff and students; the sense of community that makes York what it is; and of course, our reputation in the wider world. The good news is that I know I can count on each of you to help in this rebuilding process.

In the past year-and-a-half, I have seen the quality of York’s faculty and staff demonstrated again and again, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have such a competent, dedicated, and professional group of people as my colleagues.

It is my sincere hope that the York community will put this behind us, and that we will be able to rebuild the relationships, restore the sense of community, and move York forward in its 50th year.

Sincerely,

Mamdouh Shoukri
President & Vice Chancellor
