York plays host to track and field meet this weekend

The York Lions track and field team will welcome athletes to the Toronto Track & Field Centre this weekend for the ninth annual Christmas Open taking place on Saturday, Dec. 6. The open meet, which features interuniversity athletes, starts at 1pm while a youth meet will take place earlier in the day, beginning at 9am.

In addition to the Lions, student-athletes representing the Guelph Gryphons, Toronto Varsity Blues and Waterloo Warriors will be in action as they look to get competition experience under their belts and achieve qualifying times for the Ontario University Athletics and Canadian Interuniversity Sports championships taking place in the new year. Also participating in both the open meet and the youth meet are athletes from several local clubs.

Fans wanting to catch all of the action can purchase tickets at the event, and York students can enter free with a student card. Tickets for adults are $5. Children 12 and under are free.
