Founders College has established a memorial fund to honour Professor Harvey Mandel and staff member Patricia Swanson, both of whom were longstanding members of the Founders community.
A popular faculty member, Prof. Mandel taught psychology at York University up until his sudden death from a heart attack on Sept. 14, 2004 (see YFile, Sept. 15, 2004).
Patricia Swanson, an administrative assistant in Founders College, died on Feb. 13, 2008 following a brief illness (see YFile, Feb. 19).
Proceeds from the fund will be used to establish a memorial site in the Founders College courtyard, located between the college and the Founders Residence building. Plans include landscaping the site which will include two benches and a memorial plaque. The memorial site will be unveiled on Oct. 17 during a commemorative ceremony from 1:30 to 3:30pm. Community members interested in attending the ceremony should RSVP their attendance to Raissa Netto-Villiva at rvilliva@yorku.ca.

A charitable receipt will be issued for all donations. The fund’s organizers request that all donations be submitted by Sept. 30.
