Get ready for Yorkfest 2007

Yorkfest, the University’s largest single-day student event, will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Keele campus. As always, the event features a variety of musical acts throughout the day, from pop to rock and more, and a festival village featuring hundreds of exhibits by student clubs and sponsors.

The Yorkfest 2007 concert will again take place in the Centre for Excellence building of the Rexall Centre. The venue allows for rain cover and can accommodate more than 4,000 students as well as sponsors, sound equipment and lighting.

This year’s featured acts are Bedouin Soundclash, Zaki Ibrahim, Empire ISIS, Sandie Black and Symphony of Nine, winner of this year’s Garageworks competition at The Underground in March.

There will be live DJs throughout the day beginning at 12:30pm. The beer garden and food area, located in the Centre of Excellence building, will open at noon, and there will be tons of prizes and giveaways. Past highlights of Yorkfest have included buskers, food and beverage tents, clubs/services, corporate sponsor village and of course the entertainment.

The Festival Village, open from noon to 6pm, will once again be placed along Campus Walk from the Student Centre to the Arboretum Parking Garage. The Festival Village gives York students an opportunity to interact with a variety of on- and off-campus student clubs, services and groups. The village has grown over the years to include over 140 different booths. A variety of giveaways is the main feature of the village as well as the opportunity for students to find important information about campus life and services.

All York affiliated groups, services, clubs or organizations that are approved by the Office of Student Community & Leadership Development (formerly Office of Student Affairs) have the opportunity to receive a booth during the day. All other outside groups can obtain access to a village booth through the Yorkfest sponsorship opportunities. The application deadline for club booths for Yorkfest 2007 will be Sept. 1, 2007, on a first-come, first-served basis.
