CN agreement should protect GO train users

Canadian National Railways (CN) is facing a nationwide strike of train conductors. CN conductors also work on GO trains . The strike could occur as early as Feb. 10. An agreement has been made between CN and the union representing the conductors which will allow GO trains to continue to operate if there is a strike. If circumstances should change, there are a number of options for members of the York community who rely on GO trains to get to and from the Keele campus.

GO Train passengers from Barrie, Bradford, East Gwillimbury, Newmarket, Aurora, King City and Maple have the following alternative options:

GO Transit:

Newmarket -York University GO buses (GO buses are not affected by the dispute).

VIVA – York Region Transit:

  • VIVA Blue (Yonge Street from Newmarket to Yonge & Highway 7; transfer to VIVA purple to York University).
  • Maple Passengers can use the Keele 107 (York Region Transit bus contracted by the TTC) which travels along Keele Street.
  • Maple Passengers can utilize York Region Transit Route 20 which travels along Jane Street.

Passengers using the GO train between York University and Union Station can use the Spadina subway to York University. Transfer to the 196 York University Rocket which travels to the Harry Arthurs Common. Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan has a carpool database which will assist community members in finding a ride-match. Those who need a ride and those willing to drive other community members or coworkers to the Keele campus should register for the carpool program by going to the Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan Web site.
