Playoffs arrive for Lions cross country, football and soccer

 

jordancoberThe Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs begin this week for York University’s soccer, football and cross country teams.


The men’s soccer team will host McMaster on Friday at 1pm in first round OUA playoff action. York finished the regular season in second place in the North Division with a 4-2-4 record, while McMaster finished third in the South Division with a 3-5-2 record. The teams played to a scoreless tie in their only meeting of the regular season on Sept. 26. The winner will advance to play Brock on Sunday.

The York women’s soccer team finished first in the North Division with a 6-1-3 record and will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs. York will host a quarterfinal game on Sunday at York Stadium against the winner of the Laurentian and Brock game.


The Lions football team finished the regular season in sixth place in the OUA with a record of 3-5 and will meet the Western Mustangs in the quarterfinals on Saturday. The game will be televised nationally on The Score. Western finished in third spot with a 6-2 record. The teams did not meet in the regular season.


The cross country team will compete in the OUA Championship Saturday at Sunnybrook Park. York’s men’s team is led by former OUA Rookie of the Year Jordan Cober, while Heather Hillsburg, Laura Harte and Amy Kirkham run for the women’s team.
