New convocation site underway for June ceremonies

For the June convocation ceremonies, York is going to have a new, larger tent on a new site (with some exciting changes to the layout and ceremony). Ceremonies on the Keele campus are being moved because of the construction of one of the new Accolade buildings on the east side of York’s Centre for Film & Theatre.

The new venue will mean some new mud as the land is levelled on the green between Atkinson and Osgoode Hall Law School. However, following the ceremonies, work will begin on more permanent landscaping for this site and adjacent spaces from The Pond Road north to the Ross Building. The University will be gaining a beautifully landscape public space to be completed over the next couple of years.

Hoarding around the green has already gone up and it will remain in place until early June, when the tent is turned over to York.

Note the following walkway closure

From Wednesday, April 28 at 6am to Thursday, April 29 at 6am, there will be work on the pedestrian walkway that runs the length of the west side of the site along the front of Osgoode Hall Law School and Heath Nursing & Environmental Studies buildings. Pedestrian traffic will be routed east and north along the west side of Atkinson.

There is a barrier-free route through Atkinson. For anyone with concerns about the barrier-free route, please contact the Office for Persons with Disabilities, ext. 55140. The office is working with Facilities Services to accommodate community needs.
