Senate synopsis

At its 499th meeting held on May 22, 2003, the Senate of York University:

  • Received a report from Professor Kettel on the April 24th and 25th meetings of the Academic Colleagues to the Council of Ontario Universities;
  • Received a report from Professor Haberman on the April 28th meeting of the Board of Governors;
  • Received the Chair of Senate’s Report;
  • Approved, as recommended by the Senate Executive Committee:
    • a report on the election to fill the vacancies on Senate Committees for three year terms beginning July 1, 2003, and ending June 30, 2006;
    • the nomination of Professor Roxanne Mykitiuk to the Osgoode Hall Law School seat on the Senate Executive Committee;
    • the election of Professors Heather Campbell, Bonnie Kettel and Marilyn Pilkington to the Search Committee for a New Chancellor;
    • Professor Ross Rudolph’s election by Senate as the Senate nominee to a seat on the Board of Governors;
  • Approved, as recommended by the Senate Committee on Curriculum and Academic Standards:
    • the establishment of a Linguistic and Language Studies degree program, Glendon College;
    • revisions to the academic regulations for the Kellogg-Schulich Joint Executive Master of Business Administration Program, Schulich School of Business;
  • Approved, as recommended by the Senate Committee on Admissions, Recruitment and Student Assistance:
    • the Articulation Agreement in Advanced Placement between York University and the York University Faculty Association and Westview Centennial Secondary School, C.W. Jeffreys Secondary School and Emery Collegiate, which provides the opportunity for grade 10 and 11 students at these schools to enrol and receive credit in AS/POLS 1090 3.0A, Introduction to Business, Government and Society;
  • Noted a report for information from the Senate Academic Policy & Planning Committee on:
    • Equity and Academic Planning: Transforming Objectives into Action, based on the February academic planning forum;
    • Faculty responses to the Call for Plans;
    • a discussion of issues associated with York-CAAT Relations;
  • Received, under the aegis of the Senate Academic Policy & Planning Committee, a report from Vice-President Embleton on the progress towards strategic academic planning priorities;
  • Received, under the aegis of the Senate Academic Policy & Planning Committee, a report from Vice-President Brewer on the budgetary context for academic planning;
  • Noted a report for information, on new awards approved by the Senate Committee on Admissions, Recruitment and Student Assistance;
  • Noted a report for information, from the Senate Committee on Libraries and Information Technology on the annual review of computing plans submitted by faculties.
