Humana-Paredes to represent Canada at Pan Am Games

Former York University Lions women’s volleyball player Melissa Humana-Paredes has been named to the Canadian beach volleyball team for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto this summer. Humana-Paredes, a Toronto native, will play alongside longtime partner Taylor Pischke, who is from Winnipeg.

York undergraduate nets top prize for oral presentation on the role of microRNA in reproductive biology

Undergraduate biology student, Jacob O’Brien, has won first prize for his oral presentation at the Southern Ontario Reproductive Biology workshop held at McMaster University. O’Brien works with Faculty of Science biology Professor Chun Peng, whose research focuses on women’s reproductive health, particularly the role of microRNA in normal placental development, pregnancy complications and ovarian cancer.

Science Rendezvous happens this Saturday in Markham

York University and Main Street Markham are hosting Science Rendezvous on Saturday, May 9. Science Rendezvous is a free public event with a goal of bringing science to the community. York U scientists and students will be on hand inking constellation tattoos, digging for dinosaur bones, creating rainbows and more.

Lions riding to Philly for SickKids fundraiser

Four York U student athletes and members of Toronto Police Services No. 31 Division will be cycling from Toronto’s SickKids Hospital to the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital. The group is making the trip to raise money for The Hospital for Sick Children through the Cops Cycle for Kids campaign.
