York U theatre talent shines in Canadian Stage’s Shakespeare in High Park shows

Canadian Stage has teamed up with the Department of Theatre in the University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design to provide a double dose of entertainment for Shakespeare at High Park — producing two plays by the Bard featuring the same cast and different directors. The shows are directed by two talented artists set to graduate this year from York’s MFA in Stage Direction in Collaboration with Canadian Stage.

Lassonde students win national design competition

A team of students from the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University won first place in the 2015 National Design Competition hosted by the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering. The team successfully met this year’s design challenge to engineer, build and assemble a 3D printer with a fixed budget of $300.

McMichael Gallery selects York grad for its prestigious Art Mentorship Project

Emerging photo media artist John Lowndes, a recent visual art and art history grad, has been selected for the apprenticeship awarded through the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and York Region Arts Council’s 2015 Art Mentorship Project. Lowndes received professional development assistance at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and is working on joint exhibition with established Canadian artist Cesan d’Ornellas Levine.

Humana-Paredes to represent Canada at Pan Am Games

Former York University Lions women’s volleyball player Melissa Humana-Paredes has been named to the Canadian beach volleyball team for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto this summer. Humana-Paredes, a Toronto native, will play alongside longtime partner Taylor Pischke, who is from Winnipeg.
