York University announces that Rhonda Lenton has been appointed president and vice-chancellor

Rick Waugh, chair of the York University Board of Governors, announces that York Provost and Vice-President Academic Rhonda Lenton will serve as the University’s eighth President and Vice-Chancellor. A respected sociologist, she has taught and published broadly in the areas of gender, health, sexual violence and higher education. Lenton will commence her duties on July 1, 2017.

Postsecondary students and youth from across Canada met Feb. 6 and 7 in Ottawa to discuss their inspirations and aspirations for Canada’s future at Universities Canada Converge conference. York University was represented at the conference by two delegates, BES student Nishal Shah and MEd student Melinda Phuong.

AGYU Director Philip Monk named Governor General’s Award Laureate

Philip Monk, director of the Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) since 2003, is among the eight winners of 2017 Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts, announced by the Canada Council for the Arts, Feb. 15. The award recognizes outstanding career achievement in the visual arts and Monk is the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award for his 40 years as a writer, curator, and director.
