Researchers develop math models to address antibiotic resistance in healthcare facilities

Scientists at York University and a national team of collaborators have developed new mathematical models that will help researchers, doctors and policymakers address the challenging public health issue of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. The team developed math models that focus on a strategy called “antimicrobial de-escalation,” which is widely used in hospitals but poorly understood in terms of its effects.

AGYU Director Philip Monk named Governor General’s Award Laureate

Philip Monk, director of the Art Gallery of York University (AGYU) since 2003, is among the eight winners of 2017 Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts, announced by the Canada Council for the Arts, Feb. 15. The award recognizes outstanding career achievement in the visual arts and Monk is the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award for his 40 years as a writer, curator, and director.

York professor gives voice to Jewish refugees and Jamaican Jews through book, reunion

When York University Professor Diana Cooper-Clark began her research about Jewish refugees escaping to Jamaica during the Second World War, she knew she was embarking on a virtually unknown story within the Holocaust narrative. The result of her research is the book “Dreams of Re-Creation in Jamaica: The Holocaust, Internment,Jewish Refugees in Gibraltar Camp, Jamaican Jews and Sephardim”.
