City of Vaughan, York University, Mackenzie Health and ventureLAB sign MOU for feasibility study to create healthcare precinct

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on Oct. 2 will identify opportunities to maximize the best use of lands surrounding the site of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital through a feasibility study. The study will explore how to create a world-class health sciences innovation hub and opportunities for Mackenzie Health to collaborate with York University in the area of academic health sciences.

York professor awarded residential fellowship at Oslo’s Centre for Advanced Study

Professor Helene Mialet in the Department of Science & Technology Studies, Faculty of Science, is currently in Oslo, Norway, where she received a residential fellowship at the Centre for Advanced Study at the Norwegian Academy of Science & Letters for the fall of 2019. Mialet will join a program known as “The Body in Translation: Historicizing and Reinventing Medical Humanities and Knowledge Translations,” which will focus on the topic of translation in medicine.

Two AMPD faculty members receive awards for teaching

The School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design celebrated the start of the academic year with a fall faculty reception and teaching awards presentation that honoured two faculty members. On Sept. 18, the AMPD eLearning Award was presented to Professor Teresa Przybylski, and the AMPD Teaching Award was given to Sessional Assistant Professor Monique Johnson.

Join York University’s senior leadership for a Town Hall, Oct. 10

York University faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the University’s Town Hall meeting, which will take place on Oct. 10 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Tribute Communities Recital Hall, Keele Campus. At the meeting, senior leaders will share progress on the institutional goals and objectives outlined in the University Academic Plan, and answer questions about York’s latest activities.
