York grad gives back to students, creates Christina L. Sgro Entrance Award

Urban planner Christina Sgro, a York alumna, decided to give back to current York students and honour her parents at the same time by establishing the Christina L. Sgro Entrance Award, a yearly prize of $500. It’s given to an undergraduate student accepted into the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies or the Faculty of Environmental Studies, who intends to focus on geography or urban studies.

Prof. Marcia Rioux receives Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award

Critical disability studies Professor Marcia Rioux was presented with the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award by David Onley, lieutenant governor of Ontario, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to Ontario communities and for her leadership and advocacy in disability studies, commitment to enhanced opportunities for persons with disabilities and courage in the face of adversity.

York University celebrates sustainability and Earth Hour

In the days leading up to Earth Hour, the York University community will be celebrating sustainability with events in Vari Hall and York Lanes. On Thursday and Friday, York University will host the Seeds of Hope poster exhibit. In addition, there will be an information fair in Vari Hall and an updated version of the Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore and the WWF’s Panda Band.
