Political Science Professor Bruce Smardon is the recipient of the 2015 Donald Smiley Prize for his book “Asleep at the Switch: The Political Economy of Federal Research and Development Policy since 1960.” The book explores why research, development and innovation in Canada is comparatively low among Global North economies.

New book displays the wonders of the world’s pollinators

In Bees: An Up-Close Look at Pollinators Around the World, York biology Professor Laurence Packer and photographer Sam Droege look at how bees make their living, characteristic adornments, body modifications, habits and even hairstyles. The book examines all seven bee families and some of the most spectacular species within them. It includes some species that are so rare that they have not yet been described.

‘KAPSULA’ magazine dedicates special issue to York U Art History Symposium

From speculative realism to augmented reality, the 14th annual York University Art History Graduate Student Symposium “Imagined Worlds” explored the artistic community’s reaction to the virtualization of our world and the tangible outcomes of that process. While the symposium took place in February, the ideas presented have been brought to life again in a new, special issue of KAPSULA magazine, released June 15.
