David Phipps and Sarah Howe will take on the roles of assistant vice-president, Research Strategy & Impact, and assistant vice-president, Innovation & Research Partnerships, respectively. Both roles are in the Office of the Vice-President of Research & Innovation at York University and went into effect on March 1.
York University Professor Steven J. Hoffman has been named inaugural holder of the Dahdaleh Distinguished Chair in Global Governance & Legal Epidemiology. This unique research Chair will bring scientific rigour and a social justice lens to seemingly intractable global health issues.
The institute has recently added two new accomplishments to a growing list of accolades: the iStudy Award for 2019-20 World Language School of the Year (the second year in a row it has won this award), and the PIEoneer Award Finalist for 2019 Language Educator of the Year, the latter of which the institute was the only North American institution selected.

Iraqi-born artist Wafaa Bilal will present the 2020 Wendy Michener Lecture at York University. The free lecture, hosted by York’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design, will take place at 12 p.m. on March 5 in the Tribute Communities Recital Hall at the Keele Campus. All members of the community are invited to attend the annual lecture, which commemorates a milestone year as 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Wendy Michener’s death.
