Passings: Jack Barry Ellis, professor emeritus of environmental studies

After a long and fulfilling life, Professor Emeritus Jack Barry Ellis died at his home on Sept. 26.

Jack Barry Ellis

Ellis was the former associate dean of the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University. He was an avid traveller, voracious reader, consumer of current events and activist for causes he believed in. He inspired those around him with his passion for embracing new cultures, ideas and languages, and thinking outside the box. Professor Ellis took great pride in his family. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Barbara; devoted daughters, Carolyn and Andrea; caring son-in-law, Don Lewis; and six grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre at 375 Mount Pleasant Rd. in Toronto (east gate entrance, north of St. Clair Avenue. For information, call 416-485-5572).

In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Professor Ellis, donations to the University of Toronto Schools or an environmental cause of your choosing are welcomed.
