York University will put a fresh focus on supporting a mentally healthy campus through the month of October with a series of events open to students, staff and faculty.

Throughout October, the Mental Health Steering Committee will offer a Mood Check Challenge for students. Those interested can sign up by downloading WellTrack and using the MoodCheck app. For more on this visit Mental Health and Wellness at York.

Students are also invited to a Student Mental Health Roundtable on Oct. 12 from 1 to 2:30pm in Kaneff Tower Room 626. This will provide students with a platform for sharing their ideas around mental health on campus. Refreshments will be served.

Staff and faculty will also have an opportunity to participate during the Mental Health 101 event, to be held Oct. 18. This session will help staff and faculty to develop skills needed to identify, respond to and refer to students with mental health concerns. It’s a free event, and open to all faculty and staff. Registrations are now open.

Furry friends will return to campus on Oct. 19 when the Therapy Dogs visit the Scott Library Atrium from 1 to 2pm. All are welcome to come by and visit with these popular York U guests.

All members of York University are invited to attend a safeTALK session on Oct. 27, with discussions around the topic of helping to make York a community safe from suicide. This event is free, and registrations are now open.

York University’s Mental Health Steering Committee recently released it’s 2016-17 Annual Report. The plan highlights the accomplishments over the academic year and lays out plans for the 2017/18 year, in support of a mentally healthy campus. These events support this plan.
